👋🏼 Hi, I'm John. I enjoy making websites, talking tech, gaming, and hanging with my family.
I have over a decade of professional experience in building websites. I started by developing medical software for labs using Visual Basic, which was interesting, but I soon realized that my real passion was building for the web. I approached my boss and offered to handle any and all web projects that came in, which led me to work on a variety of web applications and introduced me to the world of PHP.
My love for PHP quickly grew and defined my work for the next few years across multiple jobs. I built countless websites using PHP, from custom applications connected to MySQL to sites on WordPress and Drupal. During that time, I also discovered the power of Laravel and became immersed in its capabilities. Naturally, I was also diving into frontend frameworks like Angular, React, Backbone.js, and Ember, constantly expanding my skill set.
During this time, I worked at several digital agencies focused on building as many websites as possible for our clients, which included major names like Chase, Google, the Olympics, universities, and more. These projects accelerated my learning and marked a significant period of growth in my career.
Building on that knowledge, I was fortunate enough to land my dream job at Major League Baseball. At MLB, I deepened my expertise in Node.js and expanded my full-stack development skills by working on various web products for MLB.com. My time there also allowed me to gain invaluable insights into architecture and infrastructure.
I took that experience with me and moved on to work at a sportsbook originally called William Hill, now known as Caesars Digital. I then got an opportunity I couldn't say no to at a startup called Instabase where I worked with some of the brightest people I've ever met.
Now I work at Major League Baseball as a Director of Engineering on the Web Platform team. I love my job and am surrounded by smart knowledgable people who work hard to make sure mlb.com is the best it can be and we are always trying to improve.
I love technology, learning, and lately I've been obsessed with AI. If you are in the NYC area and want to grab a coffee please reach out!
